Some things in the news are just too funny to not report even if they’ve been reported a dozen times before. Forgive me if this posting is a bit redundant but I can’t help myself. Even now I’m laughing at the way in which God sometimes brings things full circle. Sweet, sweet irony it is.
In the event you haven’t read the news, an anti-semitic (read Jew hater) by the name of Csanad Szegedi, in Hungary’s political Jobbik Party, recently discovered that he himself is Jewish. It’s funny because of the extremes he has gone to in order to mock Jewish people. It couldn’t be any better unless he were a blind KKK leader discovering himself to be African American!
According to the news articles, he tried to squash the out coming of information but failed to do so. Now he’s being ostracized by his party and has been asked to step down from the European Parliament as well. The Jobbik party claims his wanted exodus is due to a bribery scandal and that his heritage is irrelevant of what he has “done for the nation”.
No matter how you look at it, it’s just plain funny, the full circle of life thing that is. I can imagine a lot of good reasons that you might want to hate somebody but hating somebody on the basis of national identity is just plain silly. Seeing somebody who has spoken with such vengeance against a people, only to find out he is such as they, well…. it just makes my funny bone tingle.
I never did understand racism. As a child I grew up in some of the worst neighborhoods surrounded by blacks, Vietnamese, Mexicans, whites and who knows what else. The adults tended to keep to ‘their own kind’ but the kids, well, we played with whoever we could. Racism simply wasn’t part of anything I learned.
I’m sure all the Jews out there are getting a nice chuckle at this recent event (and I don’t blame them one bit). We can only hope that other people would learn from the idiocracy of racial prejudice and move themselves far away from it. There are stereotypes for a reason but those stereotypes should never be used as an excuse for hatred – never ever. The further we as a people remove ourselves from prejudice, the better off we are.
If anything, the gospel gives us reason to favor the Jewish nation and her people above all others:
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee. Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good. (Psa 122:6-9)
I know racial hatred will never go away but at least I have this moment. Thank you God for always reminding me that you have a sense of humor.
